What is Melanotan II?

Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (Ξ±-MSH) that activates melanocortin receptors, primarily MC1R (responsible for melanin production and skin darkening) and MC4R (involved in sexual function and appetite). It was originally developed at the University of Arizona for potential use as a sunless tanning agent.

How It Works

MT-II stimulates melanocytes to produce more melanin without UV exposure, though most protocols combine it with moderate sun exposure for optimal results. Effects typically become visible after 7–14 days of daily loading doses. The compound also affects appetite suppression and sexual function as secondary effects.

Reconstitution

  • 5 mg β†’ 2 mL BAC water (2.5 mg/mL = 2,500 mcg/mL)
  • 10 mg β†’ 2 mL BAC water (5 mg/mL = 5,000 mcg/mL)

Typical Protocols

Loading phase: 100–500 mcg daily subcutaneously for 2–4 weeks. Maintenance: 500–1,000 mcg once or twice weekly. Starting doses are kept low (100–250 mcg) to assess tolerance, as nausea is common at higher initial doses.

Important Warnings

Melanotan II is NOT FDA-approved. Users should monitor moles and skin changes closely, as increased melanin production can make it harder to detect changes in existing moles. Regular dermatological checkups are strongly recommended. Do not use if you have a history of melanoma.
